WAC Softball is excited to welcome Kelsey Lunn to the WAC Elite coaching staff!
For those of you who don’t know Kelsey, she was a five-year high school softball letter winner —two from Saint Edmond High School where she pitched for the Gaels, and three for Fort Dodge Senior High where she was the starting second-baseman.
She took her talents to Iowa Central Community College, where she developed greatly as a power hitter and corners player. Under the instruction of coach Rick Sandquist, her skills flourished, as she became a key player in the nationally ranked Triton arsenal. Lunn reins as the record-holder for doubles hit in a season, pounding out 28 her sophomore year. She also has record-holding performances in hits (91) and batting average (.472). Her stellar performance at the NJCAA level landed her a lofty scholarship offering at South Dakota State University (NCAAI).
At SDSU, she was a starter in all 99 games played where she served as a vocal leader on the field and a power hitter in the line-up. The tough Jackrabbit schedule gave Lunn the opportunity to play in some of the nation’s top softball facilities against collegiate softball powerhouse programs such as University of California, Los Angeles, Arizona State University, and Florida State University. Lunn led the Jackrabbits in fielding percentage (.981) her senior year. She was named co-Summit League Player of the Week on May 3, after her performance in a three-game sweep of Centenary College where she batted .538 with three doubles, a grand slam and eight runs batted in. Experiences at the Division I level offer great national ties in the sport. Former coaches now serve in programs across the nation, including NC State,
Central Michigan University, University of Houston and St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX.
